What is this all about?
The German Baseball League (GBL) is a fictional Baseball league, which uses real MLB players and the game "Out of the Park" (OOTP) for simulating the
results of games and playing out the league on a yearly basis. Anyone can participate and become the General Manager of a team, taking over the
responsibilities for on field activities like setting up depth charts and lineups, aswell as off the field, like finances and trading players with other
teams.
Even though the league originates in Germany and most of the managers come from here, we have Managers from all over the world. Anyone is invited to join
us!
What do I need?
First, you need to buy the game OOTP, which costs around $30. In this game, all management for your team is being done. You can get this here:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com
Second, you will need internet access to send in your lineups (which is done automatically from OOTP) and download the updated leaguefiles.
Thats all you need!
Who much time do I need to spend to participate?
Well - it depends. There are two types of tasks that you need to take care of as a GM:
a) regular tasks: You will need to look over you depth charts and lineups every regularly - which will cost you only minutes per week.
b) periodic tasks: Every once in a while, you will also need to trade players, make decisions on whom to draft in the annual first year player draft, think
about for whom you vote for the Allstar Game and whose expiring contracts you want to extend.
These tasks need to be done only few times every season, but they will cost you more time, and will probably be an hour per week as an average. But since
you do not need to do these peridic tasks every week, this means that if you should be on vacation for some time, that's no problem.
Please be aware though, that being a Manager on the GBL is much fun, and you might find yourself spending even more time, trying to fight all the way to
the world series :-)
How much money will it cost me to participate?
All you need to spend is $30 for buying the game (OOTP, see above). The league itself is run by the commissioner, Palli, who does not receive money for
this, but instead lives of the warm thanks he receives from the GMs once in a while.
Why should I join this league and not another one?
There is a number of things that make this league special over most others that are out there:
- We have a commissioner who does not own a team
- GBL is one of the longest runnning leagues, missing just very few days since it's founding in 2001. Along with it's very stable core group of managers,
this ensures this league is still around for a long time, unlike others who disappear from one day to another.
- GBL is using a daily SIM plan, meaning there is some action every day.
- GBL is the only league that has it's own method for signing Free Agents and extending contracts: this means, this major weakness of OOTP does not affect the GBL.
